Understanding NPA & MGO

The most basic Mānuka honey test is the 3 in 1 (shown on the right).

This test measures concentrations of DHA (dihydroxyacetone), MG/MGO (methylglyoxal), and HMF (5-hydroxymethylfurfural) in honey samples, and calculates NPA (non-peroxide activity) from the MG result using a conversion equation provided by the UMF Honey Association. MG and NPA are commonly used for Mānuka honey grading.

Results for the Mānuka 3-in-1 test change over time.
